The Amazing Castor Oil

Amongst my top ten favorite natural items in my cabinet is Castor oil!

From constipation to cancer, Castor Oil can be credited with helpful benefits to many ailments. If you are looking for a way to keep your skin smooth or rid it of sun spots, castor oil should be something that you may want to try.

As an external oil pack, it has been used to treat a variety of health conditions such as arthritis, liver and intestinal disorders, tumors, breast and ovarian cysts, fibroids, congestion of abdominal organs, small benign cysts, skin conditions and adhesions from surgery.

Castor Oil can bring  back memories of mom or grandma forcing us to take castor oil as a child to keep bowels regular. This wonderful oil is much more than a laxative! Many cultures through the centuries have credited it with miraculous healing properties.  Dr. McGarey reports that in his clinical practice, no single remedy has surpassed castor oil in treating so broad a range of disorders,

Our lymph system is essential to our immune system. Castor oil has a profound influence upon the lymphatic system and the autonomic nervous system. In the face of any health problem, make an effort to improve the function of the lymphatic system using the topical application of castor oil, oil packs, and massage. *

Constipation
Castor Oil is most well-known for its ability to act as a stimulant laxative to ease constipation. The components in Castor Oil first act to stimulate the walls of both the small and large intestines. It is this purgative action of the colon walls which work to move impacted fecal matter through and relieve symptoms associated with constipation.

The effects of Castor Oil should start within five or six hours of ingesting.
When using Castor Oil internally you should follow the directions of either your doctor or follow the directions on the bottle. Important: Examine the properties of the castor oil. The castor oil should be pale or light yellow in color and indicate that it is cold-pressed; which means the castor oil is in its true natural form and contains the nutrients your body needs to relieve constipation. Some retail stores will sell castor oil specifically manufactured for industrial uses and will be toxic if ingested.

Boost Your Immune System
Dr. David Williams has a great article about how Castor Oil can boost your immune system and Lymphatic System. The lymphatic system is an amazingly complex structure. It works hand in hand with both the blood circulatory system and the digestive system. According to studies, castor oil could increase the number or lymphocytes in our body. Lymphocytes are required to ward off disease causing germs from our body. Castor oil strengthens the immune system. It is beneficial for the function of the thymus gland, lymph nodes, lymphatic tissues lining the small intestine and the spleen. Castor oil absorbed through the skin is capable of improving the function of the lymphatic system.

Arthritis Treatment
Make a castor oil pack, and place it on a joint where there is pain, but not when there’s acute inflammation. To make it, pour three or four tablespoons of castor oil in a pan, heat the oil until it simmers, then saturate a flannel cloth with the oil. After you place this cloth on the affected joint, cover it with a larger towel and place an electric heating pad over it. Keep it in place for 30 to 60 minutes. This castor oil pack can be saved for future use by simply rolling up the cloth and placing it in a Ziploc bag.
A. 2009 study found that castor oil effectively relieves arthritis symptoms.xiii

Relieves Sleeplessness and Insomnia
If you suffer from insomnia, rub a little castor oil over your eyelids before going to bed. Castor oil applied this way will bring about a feeling of deep relaxation for a peaceful slumber without the use of drugs.

Skin Infections
If you are looking for an easy home remedy for skin fungal infections like athlete’s foot then use this natural anti-fungicide. Stubborn infections such as toenail fungus can also be treated successfully with castor oil. For skin diseases, a cloth is soaked in Castor oil and the affected area is then wrapped with this cloth and left overnight.

Moles
A paste is made from a pinch of baking soda and small amount of castor oil. Apply this paste on the affected part of the skin and let it remain overnight. Repeat this for many days to get rid of skin moles. I have heard of people using castor oil without the baking soda but applying heat to the area.

Skin Problems
Castor oil can also be helpful in treating acne. It can control acne and even clear up the skin. Topical application of this oil can improve the skin’s appearance. Castor oil is an active ingredient of anti-acne soap bars that help moisturize and purify the skin. The oil has the ability to heal skin quickly. Massaging with Castor oil can eliminate rashes, blemishes and acne. The topical application of castor oil is very effective in curing skin infections. People suffering from skin inflammation, itching and skin irritation, are often advised to use castor oil to ease the discomfort.

Colic and stomachaches
Castor oil is a well-known and powerful purgative for the bowels. Warmed and massaged onto a  belly, castor oil is comforting and effective for relieving colic and expelling intestinal gas.

Alleviates Menstrual Pain and Cramps
Since the castor oil penetrates the skin you can  massage some hand-warmed castor oil over the lower abdomen to relieve period pain and menstrual cramping. Using the castor oil pack method over the lower abdomen can also help reduce menstrual ovarian cysts.

Cancer
As far as cancer, I will just post some links for you to do a bit of research on your own.
Breast Cancer, Skin Moles, all others I recommend the book, The Oil That Heals: A Physician’s Successes With Castor Oil Treatments. I highly recommend Castor Oil packs for any discomfort in these areas.

Castor Oil for Skin Tags
MyHealthnFitness.com recommends mixing some castor oil with baking soda to form a paste. Apply the paste to your skin tags three or four times each day. Covering the area with a bandage will keep the paste moist. The treatment is not painful and within two weeks, the skin tag will supposedly dry up and fall off. However, there is no evidence to support the effectiveness of this treatment. Read more here.
